PHD is exactly what it sounds like -
An event to Develop Performance Horses and Riders.
Are you:
- A Rider wanting to learn the skills to ride and train your own horse?
- A Coach teaching people how to ride and or train their own horse?
- Riding a Performance Horse that has gotten sour to competition?
- A Trainer that always has a number of young horses developing?
- On a Limited Budget and can not afford the cost of conventional competitions?
If you answered "yes" to any one of these questions, PHD was developed for you!
- For Riders wanting to learn PHD offers a structured progression of levels that requires the horse and the rider to develop basic skills before advancing.
- PHD offers every horse and rider a structured training program to follow similar to what professional trainers use.
- For Coaches, IPHDA offers incentives for your students to learn the basics, and helps to make your job of teaching the basics fun and exciting.
- PHD Levels are based on a progressive set of fundamentals, which makes learning basics "the" goal rather than something that needs to be learned to get to a goal!
- For People riding a horse that has developed bad habits in the competitive arena, PHD offers a stress-free, competitive environment for both the Horse and Rider.
- This helps you and the horse focus on the skills needed for your event without making your horse resent the event.
- For Trainers that have horses under development, PHD allows you to showcase those young horses.
- Earn cash and awards on behalf of your customers - and build records for the horse.
- For People on a Limited Budget, PHD is the most affordable International Equine Event ever created!
- IPHDA created a customized judging system specific to online competition. This means our exhibitors never have to leave home to train or show!
With Achievable goals for Riders and Horses PHD allows IPHDA to award cash and prizes as incentives to advance skills in a manner that does not allow for skipping any of the basics all performance horses need to excel and stay competitive for a long time!
The PHD Patterns are split into 2 divisions the Primary and Secondary level patterns
The Primary Division includes PHD levels 1 – 4. These patterns are designed to test the horse and riders ability to perform the basic skills need for the many rail and non speed event classes popular in both English and Western competitions such as:
-
English and Western Pleasure, trail, Hunter Hack, Western Riding and Horsemanship / Equitation classes.
Primary level Patterns also create the foundation needed for the more advanced training needed in the secondary division.
The Secondary Division Includes levels 5-8. These patterns are designed to test the horse and riders ability to perform with speed the basics learned in the primary division. The secondary level develops the horse and rider’s skills to where they can compete in many of today's high performance events, such as:
-
Reining, Jumping, Roping, Eventing, Barrel Racing and team penning
PHD competitions have horse and rider teams each trying
to master the level of PHD pattern they qualify to ride in the
competition.
- Each competitor is trying to master the level that they are riding
- Each Pattern has a base score and the riders percentage of mastery goes up as they receive positive evaluation from our judges.
- As each horse and rider's skills progress they are required to ride a slightly more difficult pattern in the PHD competitions
- The PHD Competitions also pay out awards on a handicap system
- The handicap system IPHDA uses is similar to the one created by the National Barrel Horse Association
- Our 2 handicap divisions are called the Masters Division and the Future Masters Division
- The Masters division starts paying out with the Top percentage earned in the show
- The Future Masters Division starts Paying out at M - 25
for example: Show has 10- exhibitors:
- Mary earns 85% 1st the masters Division
- Kim earns 80% 2nd the masters Division
- Deb earns 75% 3rd the masters Division
- June earns 70% 4th the masters Division
- Mark earns 65% 5th the masters Division
- John earns 60% 1st the future masters Division (85-25= 60)
- Cindy earns 55% 2nd the future masters Division
- Tom earns 50% 3rd the future masters Division
- Sam earns 45% 4th the future masters Division
- Tim earns 40% 5th the future masters Division
By Allowing PHD competitors to compete using a pattern that matches their skill level and the 2 Division Pay out system every PHD exhibitor has a chance to earn some cool awards and better yet advance their skills and get recognized for it.
